Alton Towers Summer Hours Cut

Date Posted:

Wednesday 29th July 2015

Since the accident on the Smiler rollercoaster last month guest figures at Alton Towers and other Merlin theme parks have been seriously affected. Rides at Alton Towers this time last year where drawing in crowds and getting queues of up to an hour however this year because of the accident almost all of the rides are walk on. Great for guest experiences since they can get on everything in one day without rushing but not so good for the parks!

Opening hours for Alton Towers have been reduced on weekdays from the standard 6pm close to 5pm. Weekends have remained the same along with the waterpark opening hours remaining untouched. With the park closing earlier during the week should the ticket price be reduced slightly? Even with falling gate figures and one major attraction down shouldn't the parks be reducing the ticket price to get in more people rather than cutting the opening hours. In previous years the park have remained open till 6pm all summer apart from 2011 when the park stayed open till 7pm.
